Supreme Court to Samay Raina: "We Know How to Deal"

Now that the Supreme Court of India has taken notice of comedian Samay Raina’s joking about a court case, the comedian has landed in hot waters during his Unfiltered tour in Canada. The remarks were reported on Monday, with strict warning against the comedian.

Accused One in the case had mentioned Samay Raina and then traveled to Canada, where he commented regarding the precautionary proceedings, said Justice Surya Kant.

“You youngsters may think we are so outdated, but we know how to deal with you all. Do not take this court lightly,” said the judge.

It is in this case that included alleged podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia aka The BeerBiceps Guy, who had also earlier been allowed to continue with his show The Ranveer Show on the basis of “morality and decency” and the condition that the program must be viewed as suitable by any family member.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh took note of Allahbadia’s plea, wherein he argued that the entire source of income for him was from podcasting, which also supported around 280 workers. For the time being, the court extended his protection from arrest but ordered him to cooperate in the investigation, held in Guwahati.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, while making arguments during hearing, said:

“Yes, he went abroad and funnily said about this proceeding.”

He then went ahead to give a strong warning to YouTubers henceforth, with Justice Surya Kant stating:

“Behave or else we know how to deal with you. Possibly, they do not know the jurisdiction this court enjoys.”

Then, on the tour in Canada last month, Samay showed his ridiculous side over the controversy by joking to his audience:

“Thanks for paying my lawyer’s fees.”

The row leading to “India’s Got Latent”

Ranveer Allahbadia sparked controversy when he made derogatory comments about parents and sex on Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent, leading to uproar, a debate in Parliament, and countless complaints.

Following this, under intense pressure, Raina deleted all videos relating to the show and promised full cooperation with the police.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre and several states, slammed the contents and called it “vulgar” and “perverse” that were showcased in India’s Got Latent. He further stated that the court place should not open up for Allahbadia’s show with, “let him keep mum for time being.”

Goverrnment to Have Provisions on Social Media Regulation

On the instant issue, the Supreme Court ordered the Centre to formulate a mechanism to regulate social media contents and take public and stakeholder opinions on it.

Now, the litany of FIRs has increased against Allahbadia, on whose case interim protection from arrest was provided on February 18. The court condemned the remarks very highly as “vulgar” and stated that he had “a dirty mind” with brought shame to society.
