Dipika Chikhlia is a well-known actress who showed her acting chops in the famous TV series Ramayan produced by Ramanand Sagar. She recently expressed her views on the eagerly awaited movie version of the epic titled Ramayana, Nitesh Tiwari’s portrayal starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama; Sai Pallavi as Sita; and Yash as Ravana. This opus will have two main segments, Ramayana Part 1 scheduled for Diwali, 2026 and Part 2 on Diwali, 2027.
While Ramayan has established itself as the most loved adaptations of the Hindu epic, Dipika Chikhlia mentioned that she has no intention to be a part of Tiwari’s version. Speaking with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Dipika revealed that she was once offered the part of Kaushalya, Lord Rama’s mother, in another show about Ramayana but turned it down.
“I believe I should ‘die as Sita,'” Dipika remarked, explaining that since more than three decades had passed, she was identified with the character. She remembered a discussion with her brother, who dissuaded her from taking on another role in the world of Ramayana, saying, “You are known as Sita, and you should die as Sita.”
“Ramayan is an experience that remains unmatched, and I find no justification to change my identity,” Dipika further stated, adding “I accept my identity as Sita. I have been taking this responsibility as Sita for 35 years, so why should I try to be someone else?” In addition, Dipika shared with the world that beyond mythology, she has turned very picky about the roles she plays as an actress, and one factor to reject a movie role would be if it’s a negative one. Recently, she rejected two film offers requiring her to smoke. “I have received offers from big production houses where my character had to hold a cigarette. I said no. Sometimes I wonder—how can they even ask me something like that?” she concluded.
