For centuries, domestic violence has been seen as a women-only problem. Nevertheless, the recent statistic in India illustrates the worrying trend of husbands passing through emotional abuse, harassment, and physical torture by their wives. In extreme cases, such kinds of torture have pushed some men to take drastic steps, including suicide. Nikita Sharma, wife of late TCS engineer Manav Sharma, confesses to infidelity in a viral video after his tragic suicide. The case has sparked debate on domestic abuse against men and biases in India’s matrimonial laws.

One such tragic case is that of Manav Sharma, a TCS engineer based in Agra who had recently committed suicide. In an agonizingly moving video left behind, Manav spoke of the torture he went through and how men were always considered unequal when it comes to emotional pain. Wearing a dupatta around his neck tied to the ceiling fan, Manav accused his wife, Nikita Sharma, of infidelity before he ended his life.

After his death, a video surfaced online showing Nikita Sharma confessing to the infidelity, which only rubbed salt into the wounds of the angry public. In the video, dressed in black, Nikita reads from a piece of paper, acknowledging her affair but stating she never told Manav anything about her underhanded tricks.
She admitted:
"What a brave girl to open about her past and it was the man who was weak to not hane and took such step." Right? Indian parents are raising 'Heeramandi' material these days, not wife-material. Reality is, the past will always matter. If it didn’t matter, then why do girls hide it?

“Maine *** bhi kiya hai, maine Manav ko Abhishek ke baare mein bataya tha, par hua hai yeh nahi bataya. Yeh shaadi ke baad bataya, vo bhi uske kayi baar puchne par. Mai darr gayi thi ki kahin usko kho na dun. Shaadi ke baad maine sabse sab contact khatam kar diye.”
Nikita went on to say that Manav never raised a hand against her throughout their marital troubles. She was deeply remorseful for her wrongs and stated she would accept any punishment meted to her as a result:
“Itna sab hone ke baad bhi Manav ne mere par kabhi haath nahi uthaya. Mai usse bahut pyaar karti hoon. Meri galti ke badle vo mujhe jo bhi punishment dega, vo mujhe manzoor hoga, kyunki haan, maine galti ki hai, bahut badi.”
Social Media Reaction: Mixed Responses from Netizens
Nikita Sharma’s video went viral, engendering much discussion. Some netizens praised her honesty; others condemned her for betraying Manav and causing him to suffer that terrible fate. This has re-ignited the debate regarding men’s alleged mental health issues in relationships and the lack of support structures for men.
