Indian Railways Responds After Senior Staff Caught Dumping Trash on Tracks from Moving Train

Indian Railways Responds to Viral Trash-Dumping Video

An Indian Railways worker was seen dumping waste from a moving train in a recently released video, which gained public uproar coupled with serious thoughts over hygiene and waste management within the railways. The footage, which went viral on social media, again spotlighted the negligence that prevails in the railway system. Passengers have had plenty of second thoughts about the authority.

Viral footage shows staff casually tossing trash over the tracks

The railed-through video on viral sharing site X, @moronhumour, depicts a railway staff member empyting trash near the toilet space of the train and literally throwing the garbage over the track. It seemed like the video had been recorded by other co-passengers, and some of them confronted the worker with the actions.

One can hear:

“Look, this uncle is putting the garbage on to the tracks!”say one of the passengers.

Another one questioning him directly states:

“Why do you do it, brother?”

Another passenger is overridden by the condition of Indian Railways, and exclaims:

“Look at the condition of Indian Railways, and they promise a better India!”

Speaking to all this, the staff member simply smiled and replied:

“The trash was full. Where should we dump it during the night?”

Sharing it, the X user demanded:

“Indian Railways must find this officer and suspend him at once. As punishment, he should be posted at a station to clean platforms and pick up trash from the tracks. Railways is better off without such ungrateful and irresponsible employees. He’s the real trash.”

The over-50000 viewed video also has netizens bashing the Indian railway authorities for poor waste management.

Response of Indian Railways to the Controversy

Following this hullabaloo on social media, Indian Railways said something official on the X platform. The ‘RailwaySeva’ tweeted to accept the trespass that points out that there are rather sound provisions for garbage disposal by the railways and affirmed that the worker in the video, an Onboard Housekeeping Services (OBHS) staff member, is now being kept in absentia after being fined for violation.

Of course, the action hauled out on him did little to appease the angry mob at social media who went on to say that whatever he was doing, he was recording it on a phone.

This is not a single incident; a similar one last year turned viral; it showed an employee of Indian Railways throwing a garbage sack outside from a moving train into the open air instead of properly disposing of it.

Repetitive occurrence raises serious questions on the efficiency of garbage management systems established by the Indian Railways and further demand for stringent enforcement for cleanliness and accountability.
