During the episode, Samay Raina, the host, asked Jessy if she had ever eaten dog meat. In answering his question, she said, “People of Arunachal Pradesh eat dog meat, even though I have never tasted it.” He added, “I know this because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times.”

It left Samay, and another fellow comedian Balraj Singh Ghai were aghast, who then said, “Now, you’re saying it for the sake of saying it.” However, she did not budge from her stand despite their reaction. Comedians Akash Gupta and Mallika Dua would also be featured as judges on the episode.

Legal Action and Public Backlash

Within no time, out poured the protests over such remarks in Arunachal Pradesh, considering them derogatory and insensitive. In fact, a First Information Report was registered against her, Jessy Nabam. A copy of the FIR dated January 31, 2025 inched towards going viral on social media as the complaint was filed by Armaan Ram Welly Bakha, who hails from Seppa town, East Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh.

The FIR read, “I humbly request you to please act quickly in this matter so that no one could copy Jassy nabam in doing this again.” This fracas only gets hotter with more and more Arunachalis demanding the heads of accountable people behind her statements.

While Jessy has been criticized for her comments, the issue of dog meat consumption in northeastern parts of India is still up for discussion. In 2021, investigations conducted by PETA India revealed violations of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 in the markets of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland because of the purchase, meat, and selling of the very much illegal dog killing (inferred). This has been quite the discovery-it has even been noted in newspaper reports, including the condemnation of some animal rights activists.

What Now?

With the controversy ensuing, everyone’s eye casts on Samay Raina and the producers of the show, to see what they do with it. Now that the legal battle has started and the public has started to fume, India’s Got Latent finds itself amidst a firestorm with heat and controversy about cultural sensitivity and responsible content creation.
