“Comedy Has No Responsibility”: Samay Raina Voice Note Goes Viral Amid Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy

Ranveer Allahbadia’s joke on comedian Samay Raina’s show, “India’s Got Latent,” has now put him in legal trouble, capturing much attention in the public sphere. An audio clip with Samay Raina talking about comedy has appeared online and is garnering attention as the controversy heats up. In his audio note, he argues that comedy is all about entertainment and should not be viewed from the moral lens.

Samay Raina’s Views on Comedy

While the social media arena is going ablaze with the conversations regarding the controversy, another voice note of Raina has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter) with almost 9 lakh views. In this clip, Raina seems to be responding to a fan’s Instagram Story and discusses his thoughts about the role of comedy in society.

Although there is still no confirmation of the validity of the clip or its direct relevance to the controversy, the message gives insight into Raina’s view.

“If someone wants to shoot adult content on our show, send them over-it’ll be great fun. That would break the internet!” And shortly after, he goes serious.

“Comedy is not meant to be a moral science lecture. It doesn’t have to be responsible. It aims to take people away from the reality and make them laugh,” he elaborates.

He then adds some more reasons for why there should be no restrictions on comedy:

“Every day people have troubles. They go to comedy for the punchline. If we are to start moralizing everything, then it will no longer be funny.”

ChatGPT Se Kara Lo Comedy”

In another audio note, Samay Raina points out that the question of boundaries is very complicated since what one person may find uncomfortable, another may laugh about.

“Some people don’t want jokes about death; others don’t want jokes about children, abortion, or depression. But if we do do one thing for someone, we must do it for everyone. So let ChatGPT do this for you!”

Ending his thoughts, he reiterated one point: comedy should never be taken too seriously.

“Comedy is not here to make you wise or a better person. It is for laughter. We all laugh, and then we all die—that’s all, my brother.”

Social Media Reactions

Raina’s comments sparked some debate about whether comedy has a responsibility. Some supported his view towards freedom of expression, while others criticized the content of the comedy show. With the discussions going on, the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent looks like it will not die down at any point in time soon.
